Marnie Byford: Building Bridges in the Staffing World

From Passion to Purpose

As Chief Operating Officer of Supreme Staffing, Marnie Byford radiates purpose. With a master’s in healthcare administration and education, she entered staffing driven by a mission: to treat every placement—not as a transaction—but as a human story. Whether in healthcare, education, or logistics, Marnie learned early that listening builds trust, understanding creates opportunity, and heart builds loyalty. Her career, now spanning over 17 years, blends empathy with operational excellence.

Nurturing Growth and Connection

Under Marnie’s direction, Supreme Staffing has expanded from a Memphis base to a national presence. She spearheaded the launch of an in-house forklift training center in Memphis—an 11,820 sq ft hub designed to fill critical skill gaps and offer certified training to the community. This initiative wasn’t just strategic—it was human-centered, creating pathways for individuals and answers for employer demand.

Her leadership is equally evident in the promotion of her team. Just days ago, Marnie shared news of two senior directors being elevated to Vice Presidents of Operations. “Their vision and commitment embody our future,” she said. “Investing in them is investing in everyone.”

A Leader Celebrated

Marnie’s leadership journey has earned her widespread acclaim. In September 2024, she was recognized by the Memphis Business Journal as one of the Super Women in Business—a title celebrating visionary female leaders transforming their industries. Earlier in 2024, she received the Top COO of the Year honor from the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Her dedication has also been spotlighted by World Leaders Magazine, naming her among the World’s Most Exceptional Women Leaders Making a Difference, and Industry Era Magazine, which called her the Most Influential Leader of 2023.

In October 2023, she was further recognized as one of the Most Influential and Inspiring Women Executives in Staffing by the Memphis Business Journal. Beyond accolades, Marnie has committed herself to mentorship as a Memphis Business Journal Mentor and serves as a Women in Leadership Advisory Member, advocating for inclusion, development, and sustainable leadership within and beyond the staffing sector.

Giving Back & Lifting Others

Community isn’t just a buzzword for Marnie—it’s a lifestyle. In 2025, she participated in Collegiate School of Memphis’s Reverse Interview sessions, where students took the lead, asking her questions about careers and confidence. “It was incredibly humbling,” she said. “Seeing their faces light up—that’s why I do this.”

Her belief in servant leadership and people-centered growth continues to define her work. As a mentor, she encourages women in leadership to hold space for others, share wisdom openly, and lead with both strength and vulnerability.

Strategic Vision Meets Heart

Marnie’s ethos blends structure with soul. She believes success isn’t set in stone: “Every team member grows differently. My job is to understand their motivations, support their goals, and watch them thrive.” She’s also leading Supreme’s expansion into executive staffing and IT, applying the same people-first lens to higher-skilled roles.

Interview Snapshot

Marnie Byford sees leadership as both science and soul. She’s passionate about lifting others, building intentional career paths, and creating internal ecosystems where talent is cultivated, not just consumed. When asked about challenges, she reflects on learning to delegate—“Handing over control taught me to trust deeply, not blindly.” Her proudest achievements stem not from titles, but from impact: watching colleagues rise, hearing clients share how placements changed lives, and showing up where it matters—schools, summits, and strategy tables. For the next generation of leaders, she encourages curiosity, adaptability, and courage: “Know the numbers, yes—but know your people better.”

Looking Ahead

Marnie’s next frontier includes scaling Supreme Staffing’s direct-hire services for executive and IT placements while expanding training initiatives for emerging workforce sectors. She is also exploring technology—like AI-enhanced candidate matching—without compromising the deeply human touch Supreme Staffing is known for.
Beyond metrics and growth charts, her vision remains grounded: lead with impact, uplift through inclusion, and redefine what it means to be a modern COO—not just of operations, but of culture and community.
